U.S., other governments say it’s likely Iran shot down Ukrainian passenger jet

According to the U.S. government, evidence is mounting that an Iranian missile was responsible for the crash of a passenger plane near Tehran Wednesday. Iran denies the charge, but the U.S. says radar, satellite and photos indicate it is "highly likely" -- raising the question of why civilian aircraft were flying amid a conflict. Adam Schiff, the House Intelligence Committee chair, said that Gordon Sondland's testimony was a "seminal moment in our investigation," adding that the evidence brought forward by the U.S. ambassador to the European Union was "deeply significant and troubling." Schiff spoke after the testimony from Sondland on Nov. 20, in a public hearing as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.
